A message from the Unit Director
Crisis and disaster management aims to control sudden and escalating events, deal with them, classify them, and address their effects and consequences. It is a management approach based on study and research, knowledge and learned experiences, planning, and the use of information and data as a basis for sound decision-making. Crisis and disaster management works by responding immediately to events to halt their escalation, control them, and limit them, depriving them of the elements that enable them to grow and any new sources they may acquire during their rapid momentum. The importance and role of various media outlets in managing and responding to various crises and disasters is evident, whether before, during, or after their occurrence. This necessitates highlighting this role and its importance in ensuring security and stability for society as a whole. There are many definitions of crisis and disaster, and concepts and perspectives differ from one country or society to another, depending on their perspective. Some view a crisis as a sudden event that places pressure on decision-makers, requiring them to confront it using scientific means and methods to help eliminate it before it escalates. Others view the cause of a crisis as being unexpected despite the appearance of signs and signals of its occurrence, or as a result of misunderstandings or mishandling of its events. As for a disaster, its definition varies according to its scale and the material and moral damage it causes. Some view a physical event resulting in deaths, injuries, and material losses as a disaster. Others view the spread of an epidemic or infectious disease that causes deaths as a disaster. Others view material losses resulting from a devastating hurricane or fire as a disaster, requiring state or international community intervention to provide assistance and mitigate the damage.
May God protect everyone from all harm and evil
