A word from the Program Director

The Professional Master’s Program in the Design and Practice of Group Therapy aims to academically and professionally qualify social workers to practice group therapy in various fields such as addiction, learning difficulties, and diverse therapeutic and social institutions. The program adopts the credit hour system and integrates theoretical study with practical application and field training.

The program focuses on contemporary models and theories of group therapy, professional intervention methods, and the design of therapeutic programs and the evaluation of their social and psychological impact. It also emphasizes the development of scientific research skills, teamwork, and the use of digital technology in professional practice.

In addition, the program places special emphasis on professional ethics and on developing students’ skills in observation, professional documentation, and therapeutic intervention, thereby contributing to the preparation of graduates who are capable of competing in the local and regional labor markets.

First: Program Objectives: 

  • To equip students with the knowledge and skills related to the foundations of scientific research in group therapy, its tools, and their application in the design and practice of group therapy.
  • To develop students' knowledge of relevant professional models and theories, as well as design methods and approaches in group therapy.
  • To keep students informed of the latest developments in the design and practice of group therapy.
  • To develop specialized professional skills in group therapy, particularly regarding the use of information technology, databases, and the exchange of experiences.
  • To equip students with the skills to design and implement group therapy programs.
  • To equip students with the skills to measure the social, psychological, and institutional impact at all levels.
  • To develop students' skills in designing and implementing group therapy programs.
  • To equip students with the skills related to group therapy research, its techniques, and how to develop its various methods.
  • To equip students with the skills in observation, therapeutic intervention, teamwork, and professional record-keeping.
  • To provide students with the professional and ethical principles they should adhere to in their professional practice within group therapy institutions across various fields.

Admission and Registration

Admission Requirements

1- The applicant must hold a Bachelor's degree in Social Work with a minimum grade of "Good" from a recognized college of social work or equivalent higher institute of social work.

2- If the applicant holds a "Pass" grade in their Bachelor's degree, they may be admitted to the Master's program upon obtaining a minimum grade of "Good" in one of the postgraduate diplomas related to the program from:

3- an accredited university.

4- The applicant must successfully pass the oral and written examinations administered by the academic department to assess their readiness for the professional Master's program, with a minimum combined score of 60%.

5- The applicant submits an application to the program administration for admission to the professional Master's program. Enrollment is granted after the applicant passes the required examinations, following consultation with the academic department council, approval by the college council, and endorsement by the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research.

6- International students are eligible for admission to the program, subject to the following conditions:

a- Compliance with the university's admission requirements for international students.

b- International students are required to attend classes regularly, in accordance with the program's focus on teaching and training advanced skills.

  1. c) If international students are unable to attend regularly, they may utilize distance learning through available technology to attend the missed lectures.
  2. d) International students may select an institution in their home country that is relevant to their chosen field of study. A course instructor will then contact this institution to coordinate the student's training program.
