The Social Therapy Center at the Faculty of Social Work, Helwan University, is a branch of the University's Community Service Center. It is a special unit with financial, technical, and administrative independence, following the provisions of Executive Regulations of Universities Law No. 49 of 1972, issued by a presidential decree.

Center Vision

 

To assist university students to deal with social, psychological, and family problems that affect their academic achievement and adjustment by providing specialized professional therapeutic services and contributing to the development of university students' skills by providing a variety of specialized and distinguished training services and courses.

Center Mission

Mission

Strengthen the relationship between the university, the faculty, and community institutions by providing a range of specialized services to achieve professional goals and provide suitable job opportunities for male and female graduates in social institutions.                                                                                  

Target groups for the activities and services of the Social Counseling Center

1. Male and female students at Helwan University, other universities and educational institutes.

2. Graduate students from within and outside the university, and foreign students from within and outside the university.

3. Social workers at social agencies in the community.

4. Students at public, private, and experimental schools, clients referred from institutions to the center or clients who come to the center voluntarily, university staff and administrative employees, and Egyptian families.

Types of problems the center is interested in dealing with

  • Academic problems such as (violence, bullying, running away, low academic achievement and stealing)
  • Family problems such as (marital disputes, domestic violence, neglect, problems dealing with children)
  • Behavioral problems such as (aggressive behavior, hyperactivity, smoking, addiction)
  • Psychological problems such as (depression, anxiety, phobias)
  • Dealing with adolescent problems, positive parenting methods, and problems of behavioral and sexual deviations.
  • Problems of foreign students and those who are struggling in their studies, and the problems of social workers in their field of work.

Objectives and Responsibilities of the Center

The Social Counseling Center seeks to achieve the following objectives:

  • Providing specialized therapeutic services and social counseling to individuals, families, and civil society organizations, within the Center's capabilities, to support the University's relationship with the outside community.
  • Assisting students in coping with psychological and social problems and stresses, helping them integrate positively into university life and adapt to it.
  • Providing specialized advice in the design, implementation, and evaluation of treatment programs needed by community agencies.
  • Providing quality training opportunities for social workers by organizing several advanced training courses that contribute to honing their experiences and skills, adapted to the nature of contemporary problems in all areas of professional practice.
  • Advertising the Social Counseling Center's activities and marketing its services within the community surrounding the University and beyond.
  • Concluding agreements and contracts with institutions or entities wishing to benefit from the Center's services.
  • Proposing new activities and services that generate revenue for the Center and the University within the University's permitted percentage.
  • Preparing periodic reports on the Center's activities and workflow.
  • Preparing the Center's work plans, training programs, and research projects. and obtaining their approval from the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
  • Preparing a timeline for the Center's activities, following up on implementation steps, and addressing implementation obstacles.
  • Approving disbursement documents administratively and financially.
  • Supervising the preparation of the draft budget, final accounts, and financial position of the Social Counseling Center for submission to the relevant authorities.
  • The Deputy Director of the Social Therapy Center assumes the duties of the Center Director in his or her absence.
  • The Center Director assumes any other duties delegated to him or her by the Center's Board of Directors.
  • Conducting scientific research and studies related to university students or community groups that various social institutions deal with, in agreement with those institutions.
  • Exerting every effort to market the Center's programs, activities, and services within and outside the University to various target groups.

Timeline for the 2025/2026

First: The general framework of the plan:

1. Helping students achieve integrated psychological, social, academic, and health development, and monitoring their life-related aspects to provide appropriate adaptation opportunities and positive interaction with society.

2. Organizing specialized training courses that meet the needs of various faculty members, researchers, and staff. The general framework of the plan includes the following: 

  •  The therapeutic aspect: This involves helping students and target groups overcome their problems, creating an appropriate psychological environment for them to continue learning and teaching, and adapting to their lives within their internal and external environment. ·  
  • Preventive aspect: This involves studying and addressing the social, psychological, educational, professional and health conditions and situations that negatively impact students and target groups, and working to raise their awareness and enlighten them about their effects and results, and working to eliminate their causes, and training and developing their capabilities to avoid these negative practices. 
  • Developmental aspect: It is the search for and discovery of the energies of students and target groups in order to invest in them, benefit from them, and employ them in serving them and their community, and developing the capabilities, potentials, and skills of students and target groups through the training courses provided.
