Since its inception, the Department of Working with Individuals and Families has been guided by a philosophy aimed at helping individuals and families confront and resolve the problems they face as fundamental components of society. This is all within the framework of the values ​​and ethical principles embraced by the social work profession, with full respect for the individual's personal rights.

The department's mission is defined as contributing to the preparation of distinguished social workers capable of competing locally and internationally in working with individuals and families, equipped with the knowledge and skills required to meet quality standards. It also aims to contribute to raising the level of graduates through continuing education, training, and post graduate programs. It also aims to contribute to the development of professional practice and community service by providing technical, professional, and scientific consultation. It also aims to adopt the objectives of a research plan to enhance research skills, link the department's scientific research with social and psychological problems, and utilize the results of scientific research to support the theoretical aspects and scientific content of university textbooks. This is to prepare competent social workers, both personally and professionally, and in the research fields they cover, which reflect the interests of all researchers. May God benefit everyone and grant us beneficial knowledge and the will to reform, working to develop and advance the social work profession to contribute to the advancement of Egyptian society and confront its challenges.

The Department of Working with Individuals and Families, Faculty of Social Work, Helwan University, seeks to prepare distinguished practitioners specialized in working with individuals and families, capable of competing locally and regionally. This is achieved through a smart educational and research environment that adheres to quality standards and adopts modern trends in education and practice, in line with the latest developments in digital transformation. It also focuses on partnering with diverse local, regional, and international scientific and research bodies to produce advanced knowledge and develop methods for dealing with individuals and families.

The department seeks to achieve three main goals:

These main goals can be achieved through the following mechanisms:

1. Goal One: Develop teaching and learning methods in accordance with the latest educational and teaching technology.

  1. Continuously update the curriculum according to the latest developments.
  2. Activate the electronic system for academic advising and teaching and strive to overcome its obstacles.
  3. Develop student participation and development systems.

  3. Update mechanisms for dealing with community crises and disasters.
  4. Utilizing faculty research to develop the university's surrounding community.
  5. Developing the Psychosocial Therapy Center and linking it to community needs.
  6. Utilizing the department's scientific research findings to develop services provided to community members.

1) Study contemporary problems and phenomena in Egyptian society, facing individuals and families, and the factors and variables associated with these problems at all levels.

2) Study the problems and pressures faced by specific groups in society, adopting a strategy to address these problems, particularly those at critical age or those most vulnerable to care, such as the elderly, homeless children, and the poor.

3) Focus on research at the individual and family levels in national projects, such as the National Project for a Decent Life (Hayah Karima), the Support and Development of the Egyptian Family, and the facing of Population Growth.

4) Research focused on evaluating the level of services provided by institutions and social workers at the individual and family levels, measuring client satisfaction with these services, and how to develop them.

5) Study the social and psychological dimensions of numerous physical, mental, and psychological problems and disorders, and how to address them, particularly incurable diseases and drug addiction, which affect a large number of individuals and families.

6) Conducting in-depth and advanced research on Egyptian family problems, particularly those related to the increasing divorce rates, particularly early divorce.

7) Research focused on improving the quality of life for many vulnerable and marginalized groups in Egyptian society.

8) Research focused on empowering women and youth in Egyptian society.

9) Research focused on social marketing of social workers' services at the individual and family levels.

10) Focusing on research related to modern practice patterns with individuals and families, such as reliance on digital social services and online assistance.

11) Focusing on research on the ethics of professional practice in various fields of practice.

12) Focusing on research that develops programs to develop advanced skills for professional practice in various social institutions.

13) Research focused on the problems of individuals and families resulting from the misuse of modern technology, such as internet addiction, video game addiction, cyberbullying, and cyber infidelity.

14) Measuring the quality of professional intervention programs and professional models provided to individuals and families in Egyptian society in various fields, in light of the latest quality measurement standards.

15) Testing the effectiveness of modern models of professional intervention in social case work across various fields and with diverse client types and problems.

16) Developing objective measurement tools that identify individual and family problems, their levels, and their degree of severity for use in community institutions and scientific research.
